The following is a list of classes we offer. If any of them appeal to you, please let us know and we will place you on our list of requests.

CALL FOR CLASS DATES

All students must Register and Pay in Advance for all classes. If your payment arrives after the class has been filled we will attempt to reschedule you or return payment. 

Call at least 2 days in advance of the class to confirm scheduled time. Fees will be fully refunded if any class is canceled. We need at least 2 students to hold a class and sessions are limited to ensure enough one on one time with each participant.

(The classes starred (*) are speciality classes not usually offered in this area, they require specific knowledge and skills of the instructors and will command a higher fee). 

GJ's Illuminations is a Professional Stained Glass Studio. Our instructors have had a minimum of 8 years working in glass, have taken special classes/workshops throughout the country, have hands-on experience or certificatiions that qualify them to instruct. Gary Althaus has been producing stained glass for over 20 years and teaching over 15 years. GJ's Illuminations' work are displayed around the world.

When working in glass please keep in mind that it is messy. Your safety is our primary concern so please, wear casual clothes, no open toed shoes or sandals, wear/bring a long sleeve shirt. We have aprons if needed. Safety glasses are a must, if you wear corrective lenses you will need to bring a pair of safety glasses with you to make certain that they fit over your glasses.

QUICK-START STAINED GLASS WORKSHOP - One-Day

Instructor: Gary Althaus 

You will learn all the basic techniques of stained glass fabrication. A small lightcatcher (choose one of thirty patterns) will be completed in the class. Class fee of $65 includes the use of our tools and all materials to complete your project. You will be amazed that in just a few hours you will learn the basics of stained glass and take home a project to be proud of. No previous skills are required for this class. Lunch Provided.

BEGINNING STAINED GLASS - Tiffany Method

Instructors: Gary Althaus & Jason Zirretta

You will learn all the basic techniques of stained glass fabrication. A small panel (choose one of 4) will be completed in the class. Class fee of $75 includes the use of our tools and we will supply copper foil, solder, flux, patina, wax, rings, chain and framing metal needed to complete your panel. You will need to buy glass in your favorite colors (probably an extra $15). No previous skills are required for this class.
Some supplies included in class fee, remainder available on site (approx $15).

 

BEGINNING FOIL AND LEAD COMBO GLASS - 2 methods offered, Tiffany and Lead Came.

Instructors: Gary Althaus & Jason Zirretta

You will learn all the basic techniques of stained glass fabrication. Two small panels will be completed in the class, one using copper foil, the other using lead came. Class fee of $125includes the use of our tools and we will supply copper foil, lead, solder, flux, patina, wax, glazing compound, whiting,rings, chain and zinc framing needed to complete your panels. You will need to bring or buy glass in your favorite colors (probably an extra $15). No previous skills are required for this class.
Some supplies included in class fee, remainder available on site (approx $15).

 

BEGINNING LEAD

Instructor: Jason Zirretta


You will learn the basic techniques of leaded glass fabrication. A small panel (choose one of 3) will be completed in the class. Class fee of $75 includes the lead, solder, flux, glazing putty, whiting, rings, chain and zinc framing needed to complete your panel. You will need to bring or buy glass in your favorite colors. (probably an extra $15), and Bring your Own Cutter & Iron.Must have completed copper foil class.
Some supplies included in class fee, remainder available on site (approx $15).

 

SUPER QUICK LEAD WORKSHOP - for the beginner

Instructor: Jason Zirretta


Learn how to assemble a quick, bevel & glass panel using the lead came method. Class fee of $55 includes all supplies. There will be limited glass cutting to save time. This is mostly for those currently doing copper foil who want to learn the basics of leading.
All supplies included in class fee
Class limited to a maximum of 6 students.

INTERMEDIATE STAINED GLASS - for those with basic skills wanting to make a larger panel. (something you can complete in 4 weeks).

Instructors: Gary Althaus & Jason Zirretta

You must take panel home to work on outside of class, so bring 1/2" plywood cut slightly larger than your panel to safely transport. You will need to have pattern approved by instructors prior to class - no larger than 24" x 36". Class fee of $85 does not include glass (you can bring your own or buy it here).

* BUILDING STAINED GLASS WINDOWS FOR YOUR HOME - Lecture and Demo Only

Instructors: Guest


Bring in your notes and ideas (patterns if you have them), Window Measurments (approximate). We will offer discussion, guidance and encouragement to help you get it done. You will learn how to make templates, types of installation and we will answer lots of questions. Cost of Class is $25.

* REPAIR & RESTORATION - One Day

Instructors: Guest

Repair, Relead or Restore? Be prepared to jump in and get your hands dirty! Much discussion as well as working on a piece with the group. This class is repeated from last year due to many requests. Class fee: $95. Basic Skills Required for this class.
